Free UK car cost calculators

Know exactly what driving costs you.

Four fast, no-nonsense calculators for working out fuel costs, cost per mile, split fuel bills, and whether going electric would actually save you money — built for UK drivers, in UK units.

Why fuel costs are worth calculating properly

Most people guess at what a journey or a year of driving actually costs them, and most guesses are wrong in the same direction — too low. Fuel prices vary by dozens of pence per litre between forecourts and regions, real-world fuel economy is often noticeably worse than the manufacturer's official figure, and costs like insurance, servicing and tyres rarely get factored into the "what does my car cost me" mental sum at all.

These calculators use UK units throughout — miles, miles per gallon, pence per litre — and the correct UK (imperial) gallon of 4.54609 litres, rather than the US gallon that trips up a lot of online calculators built for an American audience. That distinction alone is worth about 20% if you get it wrong, which is exactly the kind of silent error that makes a fuel calculator useless.

Whether you're deciding whether a longer commute is worth a cheaper rent, working out a fair way to split a long car journey with friends, or trying to decide if an electric car would actually save you money given how you drive, having a real number beats a guess. That's what this site is for.
